Grar River
Sharsheret Park, Nahal Grar (The Grar River Park)
The forest was planted on both banks of Nahal (river) Grar, one of the important tributaries of Nahal HaBesor (river). This section of the river contains water in most months of the year and is therefore an important natural asset for animals in the surrounding area.
KKL has marked scenic roads and bicycle trails in the forest and prepared recreation areas with drinking water and wheelchair accessible tables.
General Information
Track length: The road surrounding the park about 3 km, suitable for all types of vehicles.
Tour duration: Between 2-3 hours to a whole day, depending on the level of interest.
Cautions: If it rains, the land becomes muddy and should be careful. It is advisable not to pass the river channel on the way while flooding, or even if there is a fear of flood.
How to get there:
The Grar River Park is between Ofakim and Netivot. The entrance to the forest is from Route 25, between Netivot Junction and Gilat Junction, opposite the entrance to Moshav Tidhar, between the 205–206 km markers.
The park is a gemstone that has undergone upgrading and development by KKL.
The park is located on the Grar River channel, and is one of the important tributaries of Nahal HaBesor (river).
Because of its proximity to Sharsheret settlement, the park also got nicknamed – ” Sharsheret park”.
There are a number of small springs in the stream, which is used to irrigate sheep’s herds and to accompany the thirst of wildlife and the many birds that take place here.
Track:
From the entrance way, we will travel on the road along the stream, the stream channel is full of Reeds and the entire park is planted with eucalyptus trees. You can get out of the park up the stream leading to the mound in the center – The historical site of Tel Haror, rises to the north of the river, and an attractive panorama of the surrounding area can be viewed from its summit and adds enjoyment to the experience of visiting the park.
Tel Haror located in the heart of the forest, with a building that indicates Abu Horira’s grave, which is one of the commanders of the Prophet Muhammad.
It is advisable to walk around the park and enjoy shaded corners. Picnic tables are scattered around the park and in the spring period stands out in the park the red color due to the anemone blossoms. Later the year, the colors are changing and the yellows come.
The Negev is known for its most beautiful sunsets and if you are left until sunset, you should reach the open areas and look west at the sunset as the Negev is familiar with.
